Volusia County woman killed in late Saturday night crash



A Volusia County woman was killed after a head-on collision late Saturday night, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.The crash happened around 11:30 p.m. on State Road 44 near Taganana Drive when a Kia Optima traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of the divided highway collided with an older Toyota Sienna minivan. The minivan’s driver, a 70-year-old New Smyrna Beach woman was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.The 27-year-old Pierson man suffered critical injuries from the crash and was transported as a trauma alert to the hospital. He remains at the hospital, according to FHP.FHP troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
