“It was pretty much on a daily basis; just coming home, and crying. You can hide it to the public, can’t you, because you’re only with the public, your mates, your boxers at the gym for a couple of hours at a time, but it was harder to describe it to my Missus.
“She knew I was poorly because, when you are living with the person, you can’t turn the charm and the smiles on 24 hours a bleeding day. Sometimes I would come in, get a knife out, and just sit there with it at my wrist and just crying and crying and crying.
“I’d be going ‘come on, come on, just do it’ but I couldn’t, then I’d get up, go to the pub, come back, and I’ll try do it again and be like ‘oh no, what the ‘f***’ is happening here, I can’t do it.”
