The death is the first of a child under the age of five to die from COVID-19 in the state.
It is believed that the toddler is the 14th child in the 0-9 age bracket to lose their life to the virus in Australia.
The death comes as new data reveals almost half of all Australian adults were infected with COVID by early June this year.
Low testing rates and asymptomatic cases have meant infections are likely going unreported.
