Joey Veerman in PSV transfer as Rangers target earns dream move to boyhood club

Rangers have missed out on Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman as he joins boyhood club PSV Eindhoven.

The Dutchman was a target for both clubs in the summer, with Steven Gerrard keen to bring him to Ibrox.

A Rangers relaunch was mooted for January but it quickly became clear that PSV were determined to get their man.

It was reported on Monday that a €6million (£5m) deal had been agreed and the Eredivisie giants appear to have confirmed the transfer.

They posted an image of the midfielder as a child, proudly wearing a PSV shirt, to tease the deal.

The deal to leave Heerenveen has now been rubber stamped as he pens a contract until 2026.

On the move the 23-year-old said: “Last Saturday my agent told me that John de Jong had made inquiries with him and a day later I already spoke to Roger Schmidt.

“I am looking forward to playing football at this wonderful club – the number one in the Eredivisie.

“You have to perform here every week. I was looking for that challenge.

“I am very happy with this step and the speed with which PSV has acted.”

Gers boss Gio van Bronckhorst will look to add to his squad this month after selling Nathan Patterson to Everton.
