Air units have been called in amid the major search for a missing Scots pensioner suffering from dementia.
Police have confirmed a multi-agency operation is currently looking for David McLeod, who left his home on Woodstock Avenue, Galashiels to ‘buy a newspaper’ on Thursday, December 16.
However, the 78-year-old who has been diagnosed with dementia and can sometimes become confused has not been seen since then.
Police Scotland’s helicopter team, the Borders Water Rescue and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue teams are now trying to locate him.
It is thought that the pensioner may have walked along a path known locally as the black path towards Tweedbank, that evening.
He is believed to have pass near Tweedbank rail station around 8.30pm that night, according to Police Scotland.
David was also seen at around 9.15pm walking near to the Ship Inn, East Port, Melrose, towards the A6091, Melrose bypass.
He has been described as 5ft 6ins tall, of a slim build with grey hair.
David had been wearing a blue jacket, black jeans, a Scotland beanie hat and walking boots at the time of his disappearance.
Superintendent Alwyn Bell said: “We are continuing to conduct enquiries in an effort to trace David McLeod and we are being assisted by a number of specialist resources, including a specialist search team and the Air Support Unit.
“We are also grateful for the help being provided by our partner agencies, including the Borders Water Rescue Team and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue.
“I would also urge any motorists with dash cam footage, who were driving on any of the following roads between 9pm and midnight on Thursday, 16 December, to get in touch:
• A6091 between Kinsknowes Roundabout and Ravenswood Roundabout
• Tweedbank Drive, Tweedbank, Galashiels
• B6374 – Waverley Road, Melrose
• B6394 – Abbotsford Road, Darnick and Melrose
• Chiefswood Road, Melrose
“Anyone with information on David’s whereabouts is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 3373 of 16 December.”
