Helicopter teams called in amid major search for missing Scots pensioner with dementia

Air units have been called in amid the major search for a missing Scots pensioner suffering from dementia.

Police have confirmed a multi-agency operation is currently looking for David McLeod, who left his home on Woodstock Avenue, Galashiels to ‘buy a newspaper’ on Thursday, December 16.

However, the 78-year-old who has been diagnosed with dementia and can sometimes become confused has not been seen since then.

Police Scotland’s helicopter team, the Borders Water Rescue and Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue teams are now trying to locate him.

It is thought that the pensioner may have walked along a path known locally as the black path towards Tweedbank, that evening.

He is believed to have pass near Tweedbank rail station around 8.30pm that night, according to Police Scotland.
