The Advertiser’s toy appeal for 2021 is in full swing – with hundreds of gifts already having been handed in for youngsters across Monklands.
Christmas shoppers have responded in their numbers since our annual festive campaign launched earlier this month, with the three busy supermarket donation points filling up with a range of toys, games, books and more.
We are asking big-hearted residents to hand in a new, unused gift for a youngster aged between birth and 16; and there’s still plenty of time to take part with the appeal running until Wednesday, December 15.

Items including toiletries, vouchers and suitable gifts for teens as well as the popular piles of toys and games can be placed in the decorated collection trollies at Asda in Coatbridge and at both Morrisons and Tesco in Airdrie.
Supermarket staff are generously collecting and storing the gifts, which are then being collected and safely sorted by volunteers from Coatbridge, Airdrie and Monklands Rotary Club.
They will ensure they reach deserving young people in time for Christmas Day by distributing them via schools, community nurses, good causes, church groups and community education workers.
Community champions at the three supermarkets have been delighted to see donations roll in since the appeal launched two weeks ago.
This is the ninth year of our festive appeal and nearly 12,000 gifts have been handed over in that time.
Rotary volunteer and toy appeal co-ordinator Norbert Grant told Lanarkshire Live: “It’s always great to see how generous people are in supporting it and the supermarket staff do a great job – they’re so passionate and enthusiastic about supporting the community.”
Individual collections of items from businesses and groups can also be arranged by calling 07789 540609.
