Derek McInnes makes Celtic handball claim as he insists James Forrest winner doesn’t stand with VAR

Derek McInnes reckons Celtic winner should have been ruled out for handball after they reaching the Premier Sports Cup final.

St Johnstone made it tough at Hampden as they looked to defend their trophy, but James Forrest scored the decisive strike at the national stadium.

However, the ball appeared to hit Jota’s hand in the build up to Forrest lashing the ball into the net.

Former Rangers midfielder and Aberdeen boss McInnes was quick to point out that it was a lucky escape for Ange Postecoglou ‘s men that the contact wasn’t spotted.

He told Premier Sports that the goal wouldn’t have stood in the English Premier League with the involvement of VAR.

McInnes stated: “I think it has to be said, if that’s in England with VAR that goal doesn’t stand.

“It is fine margins. We didn’t think it was a handball at the time (the pundits), we were just congratulating the fine finish from James Forrest and Celtic for capitalising on the mistake, but it is clearly a hand ball.

“Until we have VAR up here goals like that will stand.”
