A food truck has been ridiculed for charging customers $AU51 for a “deconstructed” lobster roll.
Hannah, from the US, was at a concert for her husband’s birthday so she wanted to “treat him to something nice” but the “only dining option” she found nearby was the food truck.
She ordered what she thought was a $US35 [$AU51] lobster roll with a side of truffle chips – but she was served the ingredients separately in a cardboard box so she could assemble the dish herself.

The box included a brioche roll, lobster “knuckle and claw meat” in a plastic container, dressing, three sachets of sauces and pre-packaged chips.
“The lobster was still frozen,” Hannah claimed in a Facebook post.
“It absolutely floored me. If I wasn’t already half a bottle of wine deep and hungry I would’ve chucked it dramatically into the distance.”
When she brought the box back to the window to complain, Hannah claimed the worker offered “no apology” but proceeded to heat up her frozen lobster on a grill.
‘Not be making that mistake again’
“He then asked if I wanted butter – you know, the butter that’s supposed to come on it to begin with – I said ‘yes’,” she recalled.
“He asked what else I wanted on it. I said, ‘Everything it comes with?’ He replies, ‘alright. You see, we don’t dress it at the window of the truck because then it will congeal. We like to give everyone the chance to make their own choices’.
“Yep, sure that’s it. Will not be making that mistake again, that’s for sure.”
Her post was met with more than 300 reactions and over 100 comments.
“Lobster is expensive but come ON bro. It’s frozen lobster,” one said.
Another wrote: “Gordon Ramsay would be p***ed! $35 for frozen food?”
One suggested: “The only way a lobster roll meal should be $35 is if it’s fresh, has very large pieces, at least double the amount they were given, prepared in a way that looks and tastes good. That looks like crap.”
Another added: “They forgot to note: *Assembly required.”
While one said: “YIKES. You have to check your food before you walk off. It doesn’t matter how cheap or expensive it is. I don’t play when it comes to food. I would’ve handed that right back to them.”
Many said they couldn’t justify paying the “ridiculous” price for an average-looking roll.
“$35 for that? I don’t care if the lobster was fresh and not frozen still, not paying $35 for a dinky sandwich,” one wrote.
Another said: “That’s the most expensive lunchable I’ve ever seen! Seriously though, I’m sorry that happened.”
While one added: “And you have to put it together yourself? Bye.”
However, some jumped to the food truck’s defence, with one former restaurant employee suggesting: “They put the lobster in a separate container so it didn’t make the bun soggy, it served those specific sauces so you can add flavour to your liking.
“I’m sure on the plate it looks like it’s worth $35, depending if you’re coastal or not lobster prices can skyrocket especially if it’s a bad season. During the lobster roll season we would charge close to the same amount for much less.
While another said: “Lobster has gotten outrageously expensive this year. Where I’m from, this is what a lobster roll costs.”
