AFCON goalkeeper pulls off absurd triple save in Comoros vs Morocco clash

Comoros goalkeeper Salim Ben Boina produced an outrageous triple save to keep his side in the match against Morocco on Friday.

The Atlas Lions eventually won 2-0 thanks to goals from Selim Amallah and Zakaria Aboukhlal’s, but the scoreline could have been a lot worse had it not been for Boina’s second half heroics.

Boina, who plays for tiny FC Martigues in the fourth division of French football, showed cat-like reflexes in the 77th minute when he denied three Moroccan players from point-blank range.

First, the 30-year-old stopper got down low to stop a powerful diving header by Nayef Aguerd.

He then produced two even better saves as he denied Wolves’ Romain Saiss and Watford’s Adam Masina on the line.

Saiss must have thought he’d doubled Morocco’s lead when he followed up the initial save from a couple of yards out.

But Boina somehow recovered and sprawled across his line to keep the effort out.

Masino attempted to bundle the ball over the line from even closer, but Boina would not be beaten as he kept the arrears down to one.

And the 6ft 2in stopper produced even more heroics just minutes later as he denied Sevilla star Youssef En-Nesyri’s from the spot.

Despite Boina’s incredible efforts, the minnows of Comoros couldn’t keep a clean sheet as Amallah and Aboukhlal struck in either half to give Morocco an important victory.

Vahid Halilhodzic’s men have won their opening two group games without conceding a goal to book their place in the AFCON knockout stages.

Comoros are last in Group C after back-to-back defeats to Morocco and Gabon.

The island nation, which has a population of just over 850,000, are ranked 132nd in the world, above the likes of Latvia, Andorra and Malta.

Amir Abdou’s side are still searching for their first goal and point at their first AFCON.
